Plane tickets to Dakar... you've been purchased! No boat this time! This will be a first for us (flying Cap to Dakar). We're looking forward to our annual field conference in April.
Three ice cubes… you just don’t really cut it. I know a lot of places don’t always have freezers, or maybe the electric was cut, thawing out the ice. But at least the first sip off the top was refreshingly chilled!
Friend… I, too, wish we lived across the street from each other so that we could chat over coffee rather than over the ocean.
Little sister… you turned 16 this week!?!? I remember the day you came home from the hospital, my very own live baby doll. Now you’re driving, making your own decisions, and as beautiful as ever. My hope for you is that you remember that God is your source of joy in this life. Happy 16th!
Guy living behind us… *wheeze, wheeze, cough, cough*, can you lighten up on the incense just a lil’ bit?
Pandora… it seems like every time I “like” a song, I never hear it again. Are you playing some kind of mean trick on me? I wonder what would happen if I “disliked” a song??
Kony 2012… whatever’s really going on, wherever you really are and whatever our nation can or can’t do to bring you down, just know that God is your ultimate judge, and you will pay.
Lady walking through our neighborhood selling lettuce… how did you know? I was just thinking, “Man, I really need some lettuce to make a salad to go with tonight’s dinner.” And BAM! there you were with a big basket of green garden lettuce on your head, just like a lettuce-selling-angel-sent-from-heaven. Thanks for making all of my produce dreams come true! [Ok, ok, my feelings towards this salad lady may have been slightly exaggerated here, but I really was desperate for salad and didn't want to walk down to the market to get some!]
Spring forward… big deal! When we’re looking at a time difference changing from 7 hours to 6, losing that one hour doesn’t really help us out much, unfortunately. We’re still well into our day before we can message, call or contact our families. But, we’re happy for those of you who now have longer/lighter days. Those early days of spring are the best!
People who have a “Lion King” mentality of Africa… no, we don’t have lions, monkeys, rhinos, and giraffes running wild in our backyard. Although there have been rumors of some lions in a national park that isn’t too far from us. Although sadly it’s closed now due to rebel activity and land mines – eeeek – a good reason to stay out!
Land mines and three-legged-lions… I think it goes without saying that you’re BOTH extremely dangerous and scary!
Shawn… thanks for letting me name the meals that you make. “Hearty Cowboy Breakfast” was my favorite. I can’t believe you made it all from leftovers in the fridge. Steak, potatoes, onions, eggs, cheese, and more!
Lorelai Gilmore… do you really drink that much coffee?
Our amaryllis plant… when are you going to flower? We’re waaaaiiittting.
Roxy… it’s cute that you can push the door open with your nose and let yourself into the house, and how you come slowly walking in with that guilty look that says, “Hey guys, I just let myself in. Is that ok? Hey guys?” As cute as that is you just can’t do it. You need to be invited in. Okay? Okay.
Your [favorite] ”meeeshionary” friends,
