Dust central

Wow, the crazy dust storms continue. We woke up smelling dust in the air and we looked outside to see that the sky was thick with dust, like fog. Everything is coated with a few layers of dust from the overnight winds that blow in from the Sahara desert. Our house girl is out of town this week, so I’m on my own sweeping up piles of dirt and trying to clear it out of the house just in time for another big gust to blow in through our screen-only-windows. Oh well. C’est la vie. Sometimes you just have to hold your breath, cough, wheeze, and continue on with the day!

A thick morning sky.

Roxy on the roof with me while I hang the clothes on the line to dry and/or turn into mud. Time will tell.

“You make beautiful things out of dust”

The view from up on our roof.

Bringing you your first look at today’s weather in Senegal,

  1. Wow, that sounds SO MUCH like the Chaco. I think your Uncle Paul said that there were a lot of similarities actually. I always felt kind of at home when the dust swirled like blizzard snow or filled the air like fog, but it wears on you too to have so much BROWN everywhere! When it finally rains everything looks SO GREEN just because the dust is washed off!
How come your windows only have screen – forgive my ignorance!

    • Yes, I bet it is quite similar to the chaco this time of year! The people just don’t use glass here (except the richies with air conditioning). It seems like most people don’t even have screen in their windows.

  2. I can’t believe you don’t appreciate the gift we’ve been sending you from our corner of the world. :) If it makes you feel any better it was even thicker here because we could barely see across the campus. However, we have glass panes in our windows…I can’t imagine what it would be like without them. It was literally difficult to breathe here on Monday.
