More than a place to sit

God is so good to us. We have moved so many times, and each time he has provided just what we need. Many times he goes out of his way and provides our wants too!

When we first left for Guinea I was sad to leave behind my comfy red couch that we had bought as newlyweds. I know it sounds silly, but it was just one of those things {comforts, luxuries, memories} that I was prepared to sacrifice for the sake of missions, and it wasn’t easy.

Over the past three years we’ve been living with “this and that” hand-me-down furniture along the way, recovering old cushions and making do. All along, I was dreaming of my comfy and stylish red couch.

Now that we’ve settled into our “townhouse” here at the guesthouse, a more permanent ministry position, we knew that we wanted to ‘someday’ buy a couch that we really liked, and actually wanted to sit on!

Well, just TWO weeks after our arrival, we came across a deal that was clearly meant to be. Long story short, there’s a family here in Dakar who is moving back to the US, and they sold us a truck load of furniture, rugs, side tables, picture frames, candles, {and more} for us AND the guesthouse! They really helped us out by giving us a great deal on things we wanted and needed to help make our house / the guesthouse a home. There were so many things that they just “threw in on the deal” to be a blessing to us and other missionaries. Plus, they said that we were even helping them out by taking some of these things off their hands, since they’re needing to get rid of everything before they leave. The family who sold us the furniture also said, “We are SO thrilled that you guys could use it. The timing was perfect on both ends…just more confirmation to each of us that we are where He wants us to be.” Cool, huh?!

The “BEFORE” living room furniture.

This time he provided something we needed and wanted.

The "AFTER" living room furniture.

Sitting on our new comfy couches,

  1. So cool! I remember your red comfy couch from Jersey Shore. I loved it and i would have had a hard time leaving it behind too. I’m so glad the Lord provided you with something you needed and wanted.

  2. Yeah, that living room set is awesome. Not that we coveted it or anything… ;) SO glad God worked this out for both sides!

    • Thanks Kari. Well, it could have been yours if you weren’t traipsing around Europe, haha! At least when you come to visit you’ll have a happy souvenir of your friend Lauren!
