Remedy for a bad day

I’m not gonna lie. Yesterday was a bad day. There were some unfortunate things that happened, some migraines, some discouragement. It happens. It’s so easy to get caught up thinking about self, our circumstances, how we think we deserve better, etc.
If we know Jesus, we have e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g to be grateful for in this life.
But sometimes we need that extra kick in the face to ‘turn that frown upside down’, so here are some things that help remedy a bad day [Jenn edition]:

+ I Remind myself of the hope and joy I have in Christ. I deserve death, and now I have eternal life! I remind myself that he loves me for me. I remind myself that it’s not the size of my faith, but the size of MY GOD.

In French or in English, these truths lift the spirit and encourage the soul.

+ I put on some lipstick. I’m not sure why, but it just makes me smile. Instant pick-me-up.

Red lipstick and coffee.

+ I have a coffee date with Shawn or a girlfriend. Taking the time to listen to someone else, hear about their world, their struggles, hardships and joys, helps take our eyes off of self and onto others.

Coffee time.

+ I chat with my friend. I realize she can relate, she’s been there, she’s praying.

+ I remind myself that the challenges of living in Senegal do not give me a free pass to complain or throw a pity party.

+ I listen to music. REALLY loud music [earbuds save the day yet again]. I listen to Tenth Avenue North, Jewel, whatever I feel like listening to. Whatever makes me want to dance. Black Eyed Peas? Maybe. “Baby let me love you, let me love you long time.” *line dances like a freak only to realize that the blinds are still open, crawls under the rug and dies*.

+ I ask others what they are thankful for. Being close to your kids’ dorm school? True. Never thought of that. Nine years drug-free? Praise God.

+ I remember fun times with family and friends in the USA and think / plan-in-my-head fun times to come!

My brothers and sisters. Miss them!

+ I remind myself of this:

FREE indeed.

  1. I had a nothing extraordinary kind of day yesterday and a late afternoon migraine. Before the migraine I took my break time to go out to the bazaar and take silly pictures for a Krispy Kreme contest. Way after the migraine I listened to music and flipped through some favorite magazines while waiting for my cakes to finish baking. The best part was a word of encouragement from a poem book I read at night. I had a little heart to heart with God and prayed the poem to Him.

    • So good to hear from you Lynette, and how your day was. (I want to see the silly Krispy Kreme pics, btw.) Magazines, music and cake – nice!! Sorry about the migraine. :( Keep pouring your heart out to him, he loves hearing from you.
