Live with your eyes open

Live with your eyes open

This woman was sitting near our church on Sunday, with her twin babies and young daughter, begging for some change. As we walked past her, all dressed up, Bibles in hand, I thought to myself, “How could I just walk by and not help her? How could I just pass by and not give her a little something?” God has given me MUCH more than I could ever ask for. He has provided every meal I’ve ever eaten, he has promised me a future full of hope, no matter what earthly circumstances come my way, he provides me with fun times, filled with laughter, and he always shows himself to be who he says he is.
The woman sitting there, in the same dress she probably wears every day, hasn’t had the same life I’ve had. She’s walked a different path. I wonder what she believes, if she has hope for her future. I touch her sleeping daughter’s face, and before turning and walking away, I smile at the woman, hoping that she will come to know this Jesus who saves, protects and loves. I hope that this small amount of pocket change will demonstrate to her, somehow, that God is watching out for her, and that he wants her to come to know who he is.

If we live with our eyes open, you just never know who he will put in our path, and how he will want us to reach out to that person.
