The after. An "oasis patio" at our mission's guesthouse.
The after. A little “oasis” at our mission’s guesthouse in Dakar, Senegal.
I'm especially excited about the table! Now people can sit outside and enjoy their coffee, lunch, meetings.

How great is that tree wall decal? I bought it at IKEA in Germany.

As missionaries and local pastors come to stay at this guesthouse, as people arrive from dusty and far away villages, we hope that this patio can serve as one of the little things that sends them back refreshed and encouraged to continue the task at hand.

  1. so beautiful! okay, so i’m not a decorator and this may not be feasible, but i had an idea! we just did a send-off for a friend and someone drew a picture of a tree (very similar to your ikea one!) and everyone dipped their finger in paint and put a thumb print on the branches then wrote their favorite verse reference next to it. wouldn’t that be cool if everyone who used the patio did that on your tree?! then if someone needed encouragement, all they’d have to do is sit there and look up those references from fellow missionaries. just an idea! may not work, but it sounds cool on paper. :)

    1. Thanks, Jess! It’s something I enjoy. Good to know it looks kid friendly, since SO many pass through here. Our only concern is the glass table tops. But what can you do?

  2. Looks amazing! Where did you get the furniture from? I LOVE the little bird in the tree on the wall art.

  3. A.MAZ.ING!! Jenn you are so talented and have such a knack for putting colors, textures and patterns together in one cohesive look. The new furniture is lovely!! And I love all your decals!!

  4. WOW WOW WOW!!! I am blown away! It’s is so beautiful! Great job Jenn and Shawn! My favorite remodel project yet!! :D

  5. Amaizing work Jenn .. it looks so comfy and “welcomy” .. !!! are you a professional decorator or it’s just a hobby of yours ??

    1. Thanks, Nour! It’s just a hobby, but as I’ve redecorated the guesthouse little by little I’ve learned a lot about it. All those years of looking at decorating magazines has come in handy, haha.

  6. Awesome. You’ve done amazing things with the guesthouse. Very inviting. Thanks for you hard work. You are a blessing to many.

  7. I have to say that I find the patio absolutely beautiful. Would never have managed to make it this nice, even if I would have tried.
You sure have a gift in this area. Hope that many guests will enjoy it as they sit there watching their kids playing in the playground or just enjoying the nice setting and chatting over a cup of coffee.
